The poodles know what it is *g*.
Bluegrass is not country and western. Those are *2 different types of music* until you hit the late ’60’s-early ’70’s.
It is a purely American offshoot of country music.
The soundtrack to “O Brother Where Out Thou” is not bluegrass, despite the Stanley Brother-ish version used as the title track. Ralph did pad out the end of his life performing it but he didn’t have to IMO.
The Carter Family Is. Not. Bluegrass. I hate you people who say they are and will pick a fight. Read a book, ferChristssake.
Flatt and Scruggs. Bill Monroe. Ralph and Carter Stanley. Red Allen. Jim Eanes (who tried to do western badly *g*), Carl Story. Not Allison Krause, or String Cheese Incident, or any version of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Fine musicians but…no.
Posted without comment (but with smirk)
Borepathc says it nicely.
I think that Jackson lost me at the end of the Lord Of The Rings when the Eye Of Sauron said “And I would have gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” No thanks. There’s so much good material he leaves out, and so much junk he creates to replace it that I’m not interested.
same thing, right? Unless of course we’re looking for a video which you tel me is titled “Riddling the Dome” and when I spell out ‘riddling’ you say yes and I can’t find it anywhere, not even s Google search.
Then it turns out when you show me your syllabus it’s “Riddle of the Dome” which shockingly enough *DOES* show up in the catalog. Because…well…*sigh*…
Ronda Rousey is – still – the UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion. Judo Gene Lebell is in her corner for every fight.
USA Judo is now a sponsor of the UFC – their name is prominently displayed on an octagon post with other big-name, long time big money UFC sponsors.
Pretty simple math if you ask me.
I’m also psyched that USA Judo is evidently building a major facility roughly 1/2 mile from where I work.
Oh, and evidently the way to win UFC championship fights is to have Gene Lebell in your corner. And an Olympic medal in judo, a mother who is a world-class judoka, razor-sharp focus, Manny Gamburyan and Gokor Chivichyan as part of your coaching staff and one of the best work ethics in MMA.
I’ve heard it said, “The more I practice the luckier I get”. It ain’t wrong.
Oh, and knees and elbows in the clinch. Getting it right since Ayutthaya.
None of his movies portray a version that matches the one I’ve had in my head since I was…9?….I think.
It’s a fine cinematographic portrayal and I sort of enjoy them but I also have my usual low-level seething rage about life in general boiling up whenever he does something that I specifically disagree with. And I’m pretty sure I’m a better scholar of Tolkein’s work than he is *g*. Still dead to me ;-).
