Tell Me Again

how the gun culture in the US is made up only of an ever-dwindling segment of old fat white guys?

Two demonstrators opposing the pro gun and second amendment protest hold signs outside the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix, Arizona

Now, I fall into the OFWG demographic, sure *g*, but my experiences simply don’t jibe with that particular stereotype. I see all kinds of folks at the range, in gun stores, at gun shows, and at activist-type things. Perhaps I’m just lucky.

Khâk Does Mean Dirt, After All (Well Sorta)

Kevin has a good point – WTF is “flat dark earth” even supposed to mean?  It’s a cool color and all, don’t get me wrong – my next AR may need to be in some version of it. Maybe with that spiffy yellow Sun Devil lower *g*.

Tauptical – I like it 😉

Statistics Say It All

Late To The Bateman Party

but I still wanted to stake out my position for the 2 people who read this and aren’t clear on how I would react to this tool.

Weer’d says it all:

I frankly would not waste my piss on Lieutenant Colonel Robert L. Bateman if he was on fire, and I am ASHAMED he is allowed to wear the Uniform of the United States Army.

Yup.

Gun Show

So, went to the SAR show in Phoenix on Saturday. It was fairly crowded, I’ve seen it worse during the great Obama Panics but it was plenty busy enough. Tons of black rifles and parts, lots of miscellaneous rifles, shotguns and pistols to be found.

I saw an entire case full of of S&@ M1917’s in quite fine condition from what I could see through the glass (I didn’t look closer since they had no prices listed, and as we all know if it doesn’t say hat it costs you probably can’t afford it *g*).

the few things I was actively looking for – Ruger 10/22’s were mostly overpriced, no way I would pay $300+ for one unless it was tricked out somehow. Remington Nylon 66’s – same thing, didn’t see one for under $300 and the black-stocked ones were marked higher (no green stocks, which I’d pay extra for *g*). Is that reasonable for those? I thought they were relatively inexpensive. No Nylon 66 spare mags that I saw but that’s a know bottleneck for that model.

.22LR ammo – WTF? I hoped we had gotten over the panic pricing, guess I was wrong. Other ammo – Mi Wall had lines set up to even get to their counter and nobody else had bulk ammo that I saw, didn’t really look at he remanufacturers as I made sure a year ago to have sufficient stocks of everything to get by but I’m guessing they are probably still overpriced as well.

Generally a decent show, I didn’t do all that thorough a job of scouring it since my knee is still acting up. Good fun was had.

Gun Show Tomorrow

Headed to the big Crossroads of the West/Small Arms Review show at the AZ Fairgrounds tomorrow. It’ll probably be crowded, and prices won’t be so hot but there isn’t anything I *need* to buy and it will, as always, certainly be entertaining.

“Uh, you better rethink that one boy.”

I had been going to stay out of this (as I do all of Caleb’s…controversial?….mildly outside the mainstream?….just plain flaky?…posts; you might get the sense that I often don’t agree with Caleb, and you might be right – thank goodness we live in a country where I don’t have to listen to opinions which directly contradict my experiences *g*) , but Herschel kind of nailed it in response to Uncle.

Edit: no point in fisking item by item, let’s just leave it at I disagree. And completely agree with Herschel that I’m not bothering to try and pass down a beat up SA XD (not a Glock or S&W guy), but my hard-chromed or trad blued Model 28’s with the nice Ahrens grips and spiffy Galco holsters? Legacy.

YMMV, and good on you if you like something different.

“… so we always tell people to comply…”

Um…F&%$ that.

Robbery suspect shot and killed by Dollar General Store manager; family speaks out

Choose to violate the social compact we all agree to live under, specifically by taking what doesn’t belong to you by threatening another person with a deadly weapon? Don’t be surprised if you wind up cooling to room temperature while no longer pumping blood.

Armed robber’s grandmother; “”I felt like he shouldn’t have done it. He should have left everything up to the police,” said Robinson.”

No. I won’t get into the stories of armed robbers who get what they want and then shoot their victims anyway; everyone reading this is familiar with numerous stories of that ilk. Always remember – when seconds count, the police haven’t even been notified yet and can do *nothing* for you.

“”It’s certainly not worth losing your life over $20, $30, $100 or so, so we always tell people to comply,” said Knoxville Police Department Spokesperson Darrell Debusk.”

See my 2 points above.

I Like It

It implies a story, and I like dogs better than people. What’s not to like?

H/T to Miss K.

Senator Christopher S. Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut

appears to be wrong.

“We do know that historically in these instances, amateurs have trouble switching magazines,” Mr. Murphy said, referring to the high-capacity ammunition feeding device used by Mr. Lanza to shoot scores of bullets in seconds. “I believe, and many of the parents there believe, that if Lanza had to switch cartridges nine times versus two times there would likely still be little boys and girls alive in Newtown today.”

Supporting data, please.

Oh – wait.

Lanza changed magazines frequently as he fired his way through the first-grade classrooms of Lauren Rousseau and Victoria Soto, sometimes shooting as few as 15 shots from a 30-round magazine, sources said.

More than a week after the shooting, investigators were still finding bullets under doors and in carpets and walls in the school as they tried to match the casings to the magazines.

Investigators are aware that frequent reloading is common in violent video games because an experienced player knows never to enter a new building or room without a full magazine so as not to risk running out of bullets. This has led them to speculate privately that this might be a reason that he replaced magazines frequently.

Investigators have not said how many shots Lanza fired with the Bushmaster semiautomatic rifle after he entered the school by firing half a dozen rounds through the glass at the school entrance. Sources said that he fired approximately 150 rounds during the shooting spree.

So it seems that, well, fools rush in to make uneducated pronouncements. Especially when they are politicians. Why, oh why, are so many members of Congress freakin’ idiots?
