Why Would I Ever Need A Gun In A Bar/Restaurant?

I am asked this from time to time. The answer is always some variation of “Because I can’t know where there will or won’t be some thug with a gun/knife/friends who wants to rob me/beat me/ kill me (or some combination thereof).

To witness that such things happen:

E. Nashville Restaurant Full Of Customers Robbed

Around 11:20 p.m., two men armed with guns walked into the Holland House restaurant on West Eastland Avenue and ordered everyone in the building to the floor. Capt. Chris Taylor with the Metro Police Department said there were 30 to 40 people inside the restaurant at the time of the robbery.

“I looked at my friend and said, ‘Is this for real?’ because it almost seemed like a joke,” said Adrienne Rush, who was at the restaurant during the robbery. “They just kept on saying, ‘Stay down. Do not stand up.’ I think, in my head, I was praying, ‘Please, hopefully no one is about to get shot.'”

The men stole phones and other items from customers along with money from the cash registers.

This is in a hip, arty part of Nashville that seems to be somewhat gentrified, and certainly nicer than some of the parts of Phoenix I find myself in from time to time. Like I said, you just never know.

H/T to WizardPC over at Linoge’s place.
